Our Wonderful World (RRS)

Leading up to Christmas, Year 5 will be learning more about our wonderful world.

English We will be: ·         Writing our own narratives concentrating on: structure; how to interweave a character’s description, action and dialogue and understanding how to tell whether a story is from another culture or not. ·         Reading and comparing books by Michael Morpurgo during guided Reading ·         Looking at how Prefixes affect words and letter patterns at the end of words in Spelling. ·         Writing our own Explanation Texts about Christmas. ·         Winter Poems using a variety of descriptive techniques.

Maths We will be: Doubling and Halving by Partitioning Short Method  and grid method multiplication Bus stop method and solving division problems in context Decimals and fractions Properties of 2D and 3D shapes Timetables and Calendars

Science We will be: Understanding how magnets work Looking at different types of forces Working scientifically on an investigation

Art & DT We will be: Making African inspired cushions using sewing skills Making Christmas ornaments

Music We will be: Listening to and responding to music. Composing and preparing our own rhythmic patterns to play as prt of a whole class cyclic pattern.

History We will be: ·       Finding out all about the Ancient Greeks: how they lived and how they have influenced our lives today.

Geography We will be finding out about what the differences between Urban and Rural localities are and thinking about the reasons you get a rural to urban migration

PE We will be: Having gymnastics every Tuesday afternoon working on balances. Having Hockey every Friday afternoon.

RE We will be: Thinking about whether the Christmas Story is true

Computing We will be : Learning about Algorithms: writing our own and debugging ones that already exist.

PSHE We will be: ·        Levels of friendship ·        Managing conflicts ·        Recapping how to cope when we get angry ·       Making a booklet about getting on and falling out

MFL We will be: ·        Learning new vocabulary for the weather, types of clothes we wear and the seasons
