Our network challenge to show compassion for children in Nepal (RRS)

In our class assembly today 5 Rowan looked at the news clips from the earthquake in Nepal. We reflected about how life can change so drastically in an instant.

Over the past few weeks we have looked at Networks and in this case we are looking at our Family and friends network. To show the children just a little can make a huge difference I  have a challenged them to collect just 1 penny from everyone they know.

This will make a class collection for the children in Nepal.

We raised £6.02 - that is a network of 602 friends and family!

Well done 5 Rowan 😀

Ancient Technology Residential (RRS)

We all packed our bags and went to spend a day learning techniques Vikings used in order to live. We also stayed the night in a fantastic Viking Garrison. We stopped on the way home to see Badbury rings and had a picnic at Kingston Lacy. The children arrived back at school to be met by their parents full of smiles of achievement .... and relief!

Watch this space for some fantastic photos.

History - Battle of Hastings 1066

Today, Poplar took part in a reenactment of the Battle of Hastings 1066. The short clip you can see shows Harold, the King of England and his army defending their country and "treasures" from William the Conquerer! The children really enjoyed this game, learning interesting facts and finishing their timeline of the Anglo Saxons, ready for their residential trip to the Ancient Technology Centre!

Mrs Gren

All living things need to be able to accomplish 7 Life Processes.
Today we made posters to show these Life Processes and what they mean.

Fabulous Phonics

This week we have been looking at the graphemes that make up the /or/ sound.
Word or ting showed us that the best bet is to learn word families.

Direct and reported speech

Today we looked at how to change direct speech to reported speech.
-  We found that:
-  you do not use speech marks
-  it involved the words 'that' or 'if'.
-  the verb tense changes
-  the pronouns might change

E.g. Direct speech        The boy shouted, " I love ice-cream!"
Reported speech   The boy shouted that he loved ice cream!

Can you write some speech in a sentence and change it to reported speech?
